Waiting On The Summer Rain

Manchester is sweltering through July like a Singapore brothel. It’s been this constant cloudy heat that makes the air busy and full of moisture. The glare is broken now and again by fierce cold showers. Last night at Paradox in Withington the venue was so hot and packed that a crowd of us went outside and were delighted to find it raining. I’m in the middle of annual leave and have mainly been running in the mornings, watching Mad Men, cleaning house and writing criticism. At 3:AM there is a review of Peter Sloterdijik’s Rage and Time: A Psychopolitical Investigation, which is an exploration of how anger impacts on history, plus the new Bret Easton Ellis, Imperial Bedrooms. I’ve been asked to do a reading at the Sandbar on Friday 16 as part of the Shoestring magazine launch, so those of you in Manchester on that day might want to check it out.
