Putting the Prince Harry thing in perspective

By maxdunbar

Deborah Harvey, a campaign supporter of Zaman Ahmed Zahin, has returned her Grand father’s and great grandfather’s 12 war medals to Liam Byrne Minister for Immigration in protest at Zaman’s continued detention and the threatened removal of her friend to Afghanistan.

Deborah is very angry that Afghanistan, which was not considered safe for Prince Harry, is considered safe (despite what she describes as wholesale evidence to the contrary) for her Afghani friend Zaman Ahmed. She says ‘My grandfather gave the best years of his life to fight against tyranny. He saw what happened to people in other countries who had no sanctuary from tyrants. He always told me that we should be proud of this country. He voted Labour all his life. Now this same country wants to send a good hardworking law-abiding man to his death. I am ashamed of how a Labour government is acting, and know that my grandfather and great grandfather would support my actions.”

As the report says: if Afghanistan isn’t safe enough for the heir to the throne, why are we deporting refugees there – many of whom will be specifically targeted by fascist militias?
